Video on How to Tell Family About Your Condition

Most of us don't really want to say a mumbling word to anyone. We'll handle it. Except that we can't always do that in private. Sometimes you need to tell a family member or another person.

It isn't easy. There will be some family that will blame you for being weak. Weak in spirit, in faith or backbone. There will be other who will try to take it as their failing to raise you proper. Still other that will claim the devil has dominion and start spouting TV preacher lingo.

There will be others that no longer will see you as a worthwhile person but a burden that they will have to endure.

I like that this video talks about pre-preparation before you make the announcement. The main thing is to make sure that you are safe before, during and after the conversation.

The Root's Video About Depression

I'm having some technical issues with the next episode and Blogger too. Hope it doesn't have anything to do with installing Windows 10. It might appear this weekend. It is a depressing thought.

Speaking of which...

If you think that you can have an anxiety or panic disorder without a shade of depression think again. That damn depression is a running buddy.

Reduce Anxiety by Playing With A Ball

I'm always on the look out for a good viable tip on handling anxiety. This one is from Michael Brun.

It is short and to the point, or the sphere if you will. The brain can process two things at a time but three or more and it will re-focus on physical action before perceived meltdowns.

Jody Aman is a psychotherapist that also writes about anxiety and panic issues. Her web site has books, videos and other offerings that provide help with people with these issues.

This is one of her videos talking about five ways to stop panic attacks. I like number four, which is to use creativity to divert the energy of the attack.

On her web site there are online programs for purchase on treating anxiety and panic disorders and two free programs: one on meditation skills and one on healing the emotional self. You'll need to provide your name and e-mail address but otherwise no cost.

The focus in this video is providing a tool for medical doctors to understand that a patient may have one or multiple conditions. You are peeping behind the curtain as to why this could be a good resource for doctors who are busy and need a trustworthy crib sheet.

The questions were developed so that it would be easy for a medical doctor to understand that there could be a mental health component as well as a physical health condition.

Thoughts on John Oliver's Mental Health Video

One day, there will come a time when comedians will return to making bland real life funny. In the meantime folks like John Oliver, Colbert, the recently retired John Stewart are doing the work of journalists.

I get where he was going with this; you cannot and should not divert gun control/regulation discussions on that backs of mental health issues. Yet almost every GOP politician ran to embrace the need for mental health services because only the cray-cray are shooting up folks.

      Bullshit.

Can't even have many public discussions about mental health issues without folks going off on the rails in the comments. And by rails I mean being mean, vindictive and hateful.

Nor much laughter in this segment; there is some but dang, how much more do we have to experience before thoughtful, reasonable action can be engaged?

There is a gentleman on Facebook, a gun loving retired police officer who is trying to get folks to think about appropriate registration of guns. The same as we do with automobiles, motorcycles and airplane owners. I don't think he has gotten a lot of traction in the mainstream press as yet.

I don't even know if that is the answer or a part of one. But anything to keep the Klown Kar losers from jockeying on the backs of people with mental illness.

Thinking About Lev's Social Anxiety Poem

Lev is a cartoonist and animator of the series Tales of Mere Existence. It is the story of how his character or avatar moves though the world. Sometimes yea, a lot of times ugg.

This is a recent episode where he talks about having some place to go and then talking himself out of it.

I've done this a couple of times so it resonates with me. There was this opportunity to go to a swanky club, no charge and I would have seen neat stuff. I was all for it.

Then I started to find excuses not to go...
      • Can I get there and back safely?
      • Am I too old?
      • Do I have anything to wear to a 2015 night club (it wasn't a club event, it was just being held in one during the early evening hours).
      • What if I'm the squarest, nerdiest person in the room?
      • Will I be blocked at the door for not match the presumed demographic?
      • How much for drinks!?!
I talked myself out of a sure thing and yeah it was on a Friday night.

So yeah, I really responded to this poem. And we will see if I learned anything from it cuz I have a sure thing to attend in a few days.

      Brené Brown on Perfectionism

There are a lot of resources that folks don't think about when it comes to treating an anxiety or panic attack, condition or disorder.

Because if your attack is not caused by a physical condition or it being 100% biochemical (and it isn't) then there is some work to do.

This is a short clip from Brené Brown about the shield of perfectionism, wanting that quick cure and trying to show that you are on your game when that might not be the truth.
